8.9.2022: A day and an evening at the hotel.

You should suppose a day at the hotel would be without any events. However, on the last day, something exciting ocured ...

There is excitement at the beach, because turtle babies crawl out of a nest.

They are walking in the sand ...

... to the beach, where they first ...

... are driven up and down by the waves, ...

... but eventually leave the beach swimming in the waves. A nest may contain more than 100 eggs. If the young turtles don´t take the way to the water by themselves, thei fins are trained enough to be able to swim. If one would "help" them into the water, they would sink down and be drowned. Normally, they start this walk during the night, orienting themselves by the moonlight. Therfore, the lamps in all houses near the coast must be shaeded off to the sea, otherwise they could go to the wrong direction. These are a bit wrong timed. Their biggest enemy now is the sun, so the volunteers of the marine National park, that are present all day, motivate the tourists to help them by casting shadow on them, which they readily do. Pictures by Susan´s mobile phone, there would not be enough time to fetch the big camera from the hotal room.

Done ... good journey, little turtle!

In the evening, the hotel is covered in wonderful light.

I climbed the rock near the hotel.

Apropos moonlight: tomorrow will be full moon. Moonrise is a bit earlier today, so the moon is only visible when it comes out of the mist.

Late flowers on the rock - Sea squill (Drimia maritima)

THe moon is rising.

No people on the beach now.

We changed place to the hotel bar now sitting at the balustrade above the beach ...

... and watch the moon rising, while slowly it is getting darker.

Afterglow to the west.

The lights of Laganas in the distance.
