3.3. Drive back from the safari to the Hillside Retreat, Momella.

After a night in the Ngorongoro Farmhouse Lodge we start for the drive back, this time to Momella.

After breakfast, I walk a bit through the garden and the extensive fruit- und vegetable plantations.

View over the plantations to the mountains arount the crater rim (Mt. Oldeani, 3.206 m und Makomba Peak, 2.967 m), which we were driving along half-height yesterday.

Bananas, pumpkins on the fence, and a very young Mango tree in the foreground. Everything is growing mixed up, as in sop many places in Africa.

Avocado tree.

Bananas, pumpkins.

A small coffee plantation also belongs to the farm.

Unripe coffee beans - sprayed with lots of chemicals.

View back to the main building.

Near the reception,  flowrishing purple wreath (Petrea volubilis) is hanging down from the trees.

Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima)

On the drive back, we stop in Karatu at a typical souvenir shop. You can buy everything here produced in Tansania, woodcarving and local art.

We stop at a view point to Lake Manyara.

Lake Manyara, much larger than usual at this time of the yeart, due to high water of the Tarangire river.

Monkeys playing along the road ...

and storches in the tree, in the village of Mto wa Mbu - they find lots of food along the nearby lake.

In many places along the road, Golden wonder trees (Senna spectabilis) are growing.

We have branched off from the main road to Nairobi, into the gravel road along the Mount Meru. This is one of the many crossings of small gorges.

Volcanic rocks in many different layers, presumably originating from different kinds of eruptions.

In this protected (and a bit wetter) place, Jäger´s (Kenyan) Morning Glory (Ipomoea Jaegeri) is lushly growing.
