1.3. Safari in the Tarangire National park, evening at Lake Manyara.

After an early breakfast, guide Joseph picks me up for a four hours´ drive to the Tarangire Nationalpark

Wondeful morning mood at the restaurant of the lodge.

A few clouds do not disturb the scenery, in contrast.

At about 11 a.m., we arrive at the gate of the Tarangire national park.

After a short drive, an old elephant bull looking for a chillinthe Tarangire river.

Another one has finished that.

Joseph is a bit nervous. The very old bulls do still remember the time when elephants were hunted before the national park was founded and may be aggressive to man, which however is not the case today.

With the very high grass, even the elephants´ legs disappear.

The huge African Baobab trees (Adansonia digitata) are characterfistiv for the Tarangire National park.

We take our lunch at the picknick place, where we can see down the river, with elephants drinking.

While we eat our lunch, a small monkey jumps up the table from behind, and within less than a second, steals my banana .

Let us go to the ...

 ... Scratching-tree once more.

Lilac-breasted roller (Coracias caudatus)

Anotzher view over the river, with lots of water at the moment.

In large puddle a Knob-billed duck (Sarkidiornis melanotos) ...

... and a Nile-monitor (Varanus niloticus) waiting for prey. Regrettably, we must disturb and chase him, because the puddle is covering the gracvel road, which we must cross with high speed.

In the evening, we drive to the wonderful Maramboi Lodge. It is situated a bit outside the Tarangire National park, directly on Lake Manyara. As the Tarangire river flows into the lake and has wigh water due to last week´s rain, the lake too is high and nearly reaches up to the pool of the Lodge.

I was given a room close to the lake - the rooms are single small huts. In the room in between, warthogs are grazing.

Palm trees near the pool of the lodge standing in the water.

The lake is really close to the pool.

Fishermen have a much larger fishing ground.

Trees standing in the water.

Thunderclouds are towering up in the east, but to the west, the sky and the view to the sinling sun is free.

... and so, a wonderful day comes to its end.
