Schlossberg 7.12.2015

Bright sunshine in the morning, but at 9:30 Uhr, the view to the direection of Wiener Neustadt shows ground fog in the distance. I start at about 10 a.m. with the car for a short drive to climb Kienberg. When I turn to the left near Winzendorf´s school, I can see first wafts of mist approaching the big quarry and change plan immediately. Within less than a second, I change plan and bend to the right heading for the outskirts of Winzendorf. Sun and mist can make up for stunning views., and I hope to keep above the mist on the ridge of the Fischauer mountains.

Plan B pays off shortly thereafter.

From this part of Winzendorf´s Winzerstraße, to be seen in the picture to the left, you can see a prominent rock structure in the forest near the ridge. Today, I look for this rock, and find it straightaway. The view from up here is stunning. This is the view to Winzendorf ...

... and to Bad Fischau. The mist has swallowed Wiener Neustadt, but still keeps distant.

Panoramic view of the Steinfeld ("Stone field"), as seen from a prominent rock on Schlossberg. To the left is Bad Fischau, in the centre is Weikersdorf, Winzendorf to the right. Behind the bak of mist are the Rosalia mountains. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.

Only a tiny part of the  Leitha mountains is poking out of the mist.

Weikersdorf and the Rosalia mountains.

Bad Fischau.

The prominent cloud tower presumably comes from the chimneys of the chemical industry in Neudörfl.

After the recent gales, this hide has seen better times.

I walked across the high plateau of the Schlossberg and arrived at the opposite western slope, where I get this beautiful view to Schneeberg shortly beneath the summit.

Muthmannsdorf.

Walking through plain forest ...

...  and then up the slope to the right ...

... to the ridge of the Engelsberg.

Another beautiful view to Schneeberg and Hohe Wand, in front of the Schneeberg is the Schlossberg that I climbed just before.

Due to extensive felling of trees there is a good view to the Steinfeld, which now is completely covered by ground fog.

Mist covering the Steinfeld, Rosalia and Bucklige Welt in behind.

Ugly traces of the wood harvester on the Engelsberg ridge.

On top of the marble quarry with a view to the Bucklige Welt and to the Wechsel ...

... as well as Wiener Neustadt. A huge sea of clouds.

Sonnwendstein at the horizon, in the centre of the picture.

Leithagebirge afar, being a bit more out now.

Muthmannsdorf´s marble quarry from above ...

 ... and at its bottom..

Stone table and stool as a resting place ...

... and as a picture spot for Lucy.

Lucy, the "good-above-the-clouds-stay-sitting" - dog.

"How long will this take? Are you ready now?"

Lucy is alowwed to run, and I stroll a bit around.

Rater warm up here ...

... but not so 10 minutes walk down. Here, the temperature is about 10 degrees colder.
