Mitterberg 18.5.2018

Two and a half hours´ late morning walk over the Mitterberg and the neighbouring ridge.

First goal is the "Steinernes Bankerl", with a view to Winzendorf ...

... and zooming in to Wiener Neustadt.

Flowers around the "steinernes Bankerl": Carthusian Pink (Dianthus carthusianorum) ...

... and Felsen - Goldlack (Erysimum sylvestre)

Round-headed rampions (Phyteuma orbiculare) in the forest nearly withered.

I pay visit to a rocky outcrop at the escarpent down to Neue Welt, where 12 years ago I found dozens of White dittany. Not a single one is left, after several extremely hot and dry summers ...

Back on the forest road - elder in full flower.

White dittany (Dictamnus albus) has drawn back into the forest. On a clearing, where two years ago black puines had been felled due to fungal disease, now dozens are growing.

In short time, the clearing has been grown over by bushes, young trees and shrub ...

... among the latter also is White dittany (Dictamnus albus)

I walk along the forest covered ridge heading for Dörfles/Netting. Rauhblättriger Alant (Inula hirta) is growing here.

Peach-leaved bellflower

Carthusian Pink (Dianthus carthusianorum)

Mushrooms on a rotten trunk.

In many places around the light forest White dittany (Dictamnus albus)

A caterpillar of a Swallow-tail butterfly - Schmetterlings (Papilio machaon) on a dittany flower. Many thanks to Dirk Lindner for identification.

Berg - Kronwicke (Coronilla coronata) besides the path.

I end up at the Blosser Berg. Here I find lots of Rauhblättriger Alant (Inula hirta).

Only very few Burnt orchids (Neotinea ustulata) - this is the only one I found this year.

Flowrishing elder in the village.
