Marzer Kogel 21.5.2014

Herwig Gießwein will show me some nature highlights in the Burgenland. Our goal is the Marzer Kogel near Rohrbach near Mattersburg.

At first, however, we have to stop our drive to admire asbig group os Lady´s slipper orchids (Cypripedium calceolus) on a clearing.

A bit farther inside the forest this Lady´s orchid (Orchis purpurea), nearly completely withered already.

We go for a round walk, I also want to visit the Rohrbacher Teichwiesen and the Wieserberg.

View from Marzer Kogel in direction Rohrbach

A bit more up - Schneeberg is poking out behind the Rosalia mountains.

Rohrbach and the radio transponder on the Rosalia, which I usually see from the opposite direction.

Near the summit of the Marzer Kogel there is dry grassland. Several places with dozens of Late spider orchid (Ophrys fuciflora)

This is a yellow variant which I´ve never seen before.

Big groups of these rare orchids are growing here.

This exemplar with dotted face.

At the side of this there is another bigger orchid - still with closed flowers, so that I can´t determine it. Presumably it is a flagrant orchid.

Sibirian bellflower (Campanula sibirica), a rarity from the pannonian flora.

Near the forest : White dittany (Dictamnus albus)

From the summit, you also can see the Rax to the left of Schneeberg.

Dittany this tiem, inside the forest.

Cow parsley near the narrow asphalt road of our descent.

Rohrbach´s pond at the Rohrbacher Teichwiesen.
