Johannisbachklamm 14.7.2010

An extremely hot day with temperature up to 34 °C. Where to seek chilling?  One possibility is the Johannis beck gorge, a very narrow rock gorge near Wuerflach, with a beck flowing through. Here it should stay cooler.

near the parking ground at te end of the narrow valley.                                  Small weir - there seems to be a flood control basin

Creeping bellflower (Campanula rapunculoides) at the bridge near the fire station.

Silver washed Fritillary (Argynnis paphia) are cavorting  ...

... in dozens on Cow parselys (Anthriscus sylvestris)

Cow parsley is growing here in masses.

Common chicory is growing here too.

Johannis beck

Now the interesting narrow part of the gorge begins.

It says: Johannis beck gorge, made walkable by Wiener Naturfreunde in 1902

The route leads over long wooden bridges.

Here infact id is cooler by several °C.

The last, narrowest part of the gorge. Behind this corner, we turn back.

Now begins the enjoyable part of the journey.

Small cascades

Moss on stones.

We are looking for a place to bathe ...

... and found it beneath this bridge.

Sheila is enjoying it.

The kids too have fun.
