Gahns meadow and Burgenland 7.5.2020

I show the Gahnshauswiese to a guy from Styria interested in botanics, and he shows me a dry grass area in Burgenland.

Gahnshauswiese and the view to the Rax massive. Nearly all the snow is gone, which is very uncommon for this time of the year.

In the Gahnshauswiese, thousands of  green-winged orchids (Anacamptis morio) are growing - in many different variants of colour and shape.

Now in Northern Burgenland, not too far from Wiener Neustadt. A dry grass area harbouring three different species of phrys orchids. This is one the Late spider orchid (Ophrys fuciflora).

A special rarity: Burnt Orchid (Neotinea ustulata) in an "unburnt", near albino variant.

This military orchid (Orchis militaris) is nearly withererd.

The second ophry variety: Early spider orchid (Ophrys sphegodes).

Late spider orchid (Ophrys fuciflora).

And this is the third one: Fly orchid (Ophrys insectifera).

A single Sword-leaved helleborine (Cephalanthera longifolia), inmidst the meadow - not a very common place.

And finally a few Lady orchids (Orchis purpurea).
