11.10.2014 Short walk in the Cinque Terre.

Today´s plan is to walk up Monte Capri and Monte Galera from Corniglia to descend to Riomaggiore afterwards.

At the upper outskirts of Corniglia

Rather high up now ...

A big change of plans. At an altitude of about 400 m above sea level, the path meets the main road. Here, I sit down for a short rest. The sky has been grey all the time, but walking through the forest, you don´t realize this. All of a sudden, it starts raining heavily. So, I take on the waterproofs and opt for a spontanuous plan B: walk down along the road, much better than walking down the slippery path. You won´t believe this: After walking about 50 metres, I hear a car from behind, lift my thumb - and a very nice young Indian couple takes me with htem. They drive along with a hired car, from Genova to Florence, the young woman takes the whole drive with her video camera - through the rain covered windows of the car!

So, I find myself back to La Spezia about 20 minutes later. I am not really sad about this, because I still feel the reminders of yesterday´s 8 hours´ walk. Later on, it turns out to be optimal, because of a heavy thunderstorm in the mountains behind La Spezia - approximately where I was walking in the morning, and in the evening the same with flashes und thunder down in La Spezia. In this situation, I prefer the dry hotel room.
