4.10.2014 Sightseeing in Florenz

We break up early to enjoy the wonderful fresh morning air. At the Piazza Guiseppe Poggi ...

... we turn to the left, ...

 ...to climb the hill.

A fountain on the way up

Even half up to the Piazzale Michelangelo we get a wonderful panoramic view of the city of Florence. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.

Zooming in to the dome.

Basilica di Santa Croce

Oben auf dem Hügel, auf der Piazzale Michelangelo, ist die Aussicht natürlich noch besser. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.

We join in the old tourist´s game: two couples take pictures from one another, each with the other´s camera.

Dome and Basilica di Santa Croce

One more a telezoom of the dome.

Looking downstream the river Arno to the Ponte Vecchio.

Looking downstream the river Arno to the Ponte Vecchio.

On the Piazzale Michelangelo is a bronze copy of Michelangelo´s "David".

The hill up to the left is the botanical garden. I would prefer to visit this place in May.

Another panorama of Florence, as seen from Piazzale Michelangelo. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.

We walk town the hill to the Via di San Nicolo, where we had dinner last night.

Back at the Arno.

In the morning, this side of the Ponte Vecchio is enlightened by the sun.

Florence also has a protestant church - even though a small one.

Piazza dei Pitti with the Palazzo Pitti

In the middle of the Ponte Vecchio a monument of Benvenuto Cellini.

View from the Ponte Vecchio to the Ponte Santa trinita.

... and this time with a pretty foreground

Ponte Vecchio

Beneath the street level, besides the Arno, Italians are relaxing as if being far outside in the nature.

Piazzale degli Uffici

Once more we walk to the dome ...

... and treat ourselves with a Capuccino on the dome square.

Rather many people, indeed!

The rear side of the dome.

Of course we have to do a short detour to the Palazzo Vecchio. Its entrance is decorated by another copy of Michelangelo´s David as well as a statue of Hercules and Cacus (created by Baccio Bandinelli)

Neptun´ fountain (by Bartolomeo Ammanati)

Looking over the Piazza della Signoria to the Palazzo Vecchio

Detail of the horses in the Neptun´s fountain.

Neptun is crisp even from behind.

Old aspect of Florence - in a public WC near the Palazzo Vecchio

We once more return to the river Arno.

Here, in a small park near the water, we relax from the ling walk through the city.

Behind the bridge arch, our hotel is situated.

View over the weir to the tower at Piazza Guiseppe Poggi

Saturday afternoon, the Italians are relaxing in the warm sun.

Oters prefer to keep moving.

We lay down in the grass for a while.

After s nice drink in a park cafe and another rest in the hotel, we walk to the same street restaurant in the Via di San Nicolo, where we had a delicious dinner the day before.
