From Flatz on Goesing

As I have some spare time this morning, I decide to detect a bit more of my surroundings. I never walked from Flatz, so I start from there to a walk on Goesing, a mountain about 900 m high, between Flatz and Sieding. I avoid the ferratas on Flatzer Wand, because I take my dog with me.

First, a few pictures of yesterday´s walk to "Schoene Aussicht" ("Good View") near Winzendorf and back over Mitterberg: Panoramic view to Hohe Wand, Schneeberg far left. Click into the picture for a larger version.

Detail from the panoramic view before: Maiersdorf ...

 ... and Stollhof.

Now starting from Flatz: Flatzer Wand

Near the path: a beech tree trunk expelling young sprouts

View from Goesing (898 m) over the Sierning valley (with the hamlet of Sieding) to Schneeberg.

Zooming in on Schneeberg, Hohe Hengst in front.

Schneeberg: Summit ridge to the left with Kaiserstein, to the right the prominent screes is Breite Ries.

The hamlet of Sieding is 400 m beneath.

The summit of Goesing is a flat plateau with black pines, with sudden steep escarpments into the Sierning valley.

Now a nice flat descent through light pine forest: belladonna

St. John´s wort (Hypericum perforatum)

Near the path lots of danewort (Sambucus ebulus).

... as well as blackberries. I shall have to come back in August/September.

Breitblaettriger Alant (broad-leaved inula) as a part of pannonic flora.

Good view over the little town of Ternitz on descent.

Panoramic view from the same point. Click into the picture for a larger version.

A Detail from the panorama: Semmering with the prominent Sonnwendstein.

View back to Goesing.

I have to turn to the left, through the forest back to Flatz: Near the path a mullein...

... soonest identified as dense- flowered mullein (Verbascum densiflorum)

Near Flatz: View over fields to the forest, far right in behind id Goesing (not visible).

On the drive back I have to stop to take a few more fotos: chicory ...

 ...

... and flourishing yarrows and ...

Austrian mullein (Verbascum austriacum).
