A short walk to the ruined castle of Emmerberg 15.1.2013

After a very laborious day with work at the microscope till 1 a.m., today I wake up at 9:30  - over cast weather. However, after an unhurried breakfast, the sun comes out. So I decide for a one hourīs walk in the freh snow. As late as already driving the car I decide to drive the 2 km through the Prosset groge to walk to the ruined castle of Emmerberg.

Good parking besides the road here.

I walk up the horse chestnut alley. View to Schlossberg, which I do not climb comopletely today, but I  reach the right part of the ridge seen here.

Hohe Wand top still wrapped in clouds.

View back along the alley from down ...

... and from its upper end.

Ruin Emmerberg

The large field left to the alley ...

... and in a panoramic view. Click here or into the picture for a larger version.

I proceed through the forerst ...

... passing by the ruin  ...

... and turn back at this point ...

... back to the ruin (hidden in the forest) ...

... to ascend at this curve up to the right the slope opposite the ruin - on a narrow and unmarked path.

Reaching the ridge soon ...

... and get a fine view over to Hohe Wand, which is now partly clear of clouds.

Level with the ruine now.

View from a bit above ruin Emmerberg over Neue Welt to Hohe Wand. The highest summit of Hohe Wand, Plackles, as well as Schneeberg, are wrapped in clouds. Click here or into the picture for a larger version.

I ascend only a little bit more, but have to turn round soon, because I have to drive to Wiener Neustadt at noon.

A last view to the ruin ...

 ... and to Hohe Wand.
