11.1.2023: Guidance to new projects of Africa Amini Alama; permaculture garden.

Today I have a look at all new projects of Africa Amini Alama since my last stay two years ago. In the Permaculture garden I have to look if the orange tree I brought has grown.

I get up early. Clouds on Kilimandscharo, but beautiful morning red behind.

Mount Meru is free and in wonderful light.

An early morning walk through the lodge area.

Mt. Meru

View to Kilimandscharo

Within a few minutes, the clouds draw back a bit and the summit gets visible.

Mt. Meru in the sun in the meantime.

Still a low layer of cloud in front of Kilimandscharo, but the summit is now visible.

Every minute the light is changing now.

Sunshine on Mount Mukuru now.

Sunrise behind Kilimandscharo.

The sun climbs higher now.

After breakfast, about an hour later, the clouds nearly have dissolved.

After breakfast, we drive to Momella. In between a short stop for a picture shortly before Ngare Nanjuki, view to Mount Mukuru. The pond in the foreground is part of the Ngare Nanjuki river.

Arrived at the new Africa Amini Healing Clinic.

a

I may walk around a short guided tour through the clinic.

An important part of the therapy is nature medicine here. Healing plants a grown in the permaculture gardens and formulations are made.

Drying the plants

In the corer behind my fiendly guideis an electric drying device.

The green courtyard between the buildings.

The reception and the waiting area.

However, there also is a pharmacy for modern medication.

Mount Meru greeting in between.

The dental ambulance. Much care is take of professional cleaning of the teeth, because many people here have yellow coloration of teeth due to high content of fluoride in the water.

The laboratory, where chamical examinations of blood samples and cytological examinations of gynecological smears are performed. Even hormone levels can be measured.

A short round walk of the enclosed permaculture garden. The fencing is grown over by of maracuja plants, ...

... which have fruits on them.

Different herbs are grown here.

Pumpkins and Courgette.

This small Papaya tree ...

... has flowers and small fruits.

Vegetables

A Moringa tree. The leaves are used for different purposes, among them for tea mixtures, which can be bought in the small shop of the Maasai lodge.

Flowers of the Moringa tree.

Healing plant (may I call it "Tagetes").

Artemisia. This plant is used for different purposes. one of its active components, Artemisine, in the meantim is used worldwide against Malaria.

When the leader of the healing clinic and president of the whole NGO Africa Amini Alama, Dr. Cornelia Wallner-Frisee, opens the rear door of her room, this is the view she gets.

We drive firther to Momella, to have a look at the the new Secondary school for "sustinable tourism"

Schul building with coutyard.

The school has teaching rooms for gastronomy:

The first room with a bar ...

 ...  a resdtaurant table and a bed ...

 ... and a reception.

The second room is a teaching kitchen.

Another room is dedicated to plastic recycling.

A plastic shredder ...

...  and a device for melting down plastic ...

 ...

... with different models. The plastic is heated within the cylinder and pressed into new forms:

 ...  z.B. cups, rulers,...

 ... key pendants etc.

Outside a plate which explains the sponsors (Gansesha Foundation) and partners (local touristic companies, where the pupils can absolve practical training). In my first days in the Maasai Lodge, some of the pupils were working for training. NOw school holidays are over, they returned to school.

The school kitchen - not for learning, but for the food of the kids, who are full board.

Monkeys on the drive back.

We now drive to Ngabobo to Paulo´s permaculture garden.

The orange tree I brought and which was plkanted 2 weeks ago has got nice new branches..

Paulo and his team are ejoying.

Three weeks later, big new branches and big leaves are grown.

(thank you Gabriele Holfeld-Weitlof from Salzburg for these two pictures)

A short round walk through the garden.

Macadamia tree

Moringa trees. As they are pruned regularly for crop of the leaves, they look a bit "hackly".

On the further drive to the brand new secondary school for agriculturein Oltepe it begins to rain a little bit.

In the evening it is dry again and I enjoy for a last time the sundown dance of the Maasai in the lodge.
