Rust´ hills and Lake Neusiedl 2.6.2023

After a day rest at home in the garden at the pool, we make use of the last day of our holidays for a bicycle tour to the Rust´ hills and to lake Neusiedl. We start near Schützen and ride along gravel roads along the hills, often with views to the lake, from there till St. Margarethen, then back via the tarmac road. Afterwards, a wonderful lunch at the Restaurant Katamaran at the bathing place of Rust, and a boat round trip with the excursion boat.

The slopes up to Goldberg, in places covered with tufted vetch.

Good view to lake Neusiedl from the first of many branchings.

The summti area of the Goldberg is coverd with downy oaks and dry grass, with pannonic flora.

Dittany (Dictamnus albus) is growing here in abundance.

We have crossed the main road near the quarry and a small hamlet, then a rough road down and are now cycling in the flat hollow between St. Margarethen and Siegendorf. Here a field with Phacelia and poppies ...

... and then this wonderful poppy field.

Back along the tarmac road - here a field with chamomille and poppies. We have cycled along these hillls in the background.

After a wonderful lunch in the Restaurant Katamaran near the bathing polace of Rust, we just happen to be in time for the excursion boat , taking us for a one hour round trip out onto the lake and around a reed insula.

Passing by the sailing harbour.

Clouds on western sky - we were toold about a short shower at home in Winzendorf.

Huts at the reed area - only reachable with boat.

Reed insula in the lake Neusiedl.

On the drive back home, we branch off at St. Margarethen a drive to the area called Siegendorfer Puszta. I want to have a short look if the anacamptis palustris is in flower. On the meadow I visit I find a few lesser butterfly orchids (Platanthera bifolia) ...

... and only very few and small Anacamptis palustris orchids (Anacamptis palustris).

On the slope above, common bugloss (Anchusa officinalis)
