Hohe Mandling 21.2.2012
I liked snow shoe walking in my holiday in Carnthia, so back home, I bought snow shoes. A first test of the shoes on a walk on Mandling.
I park my car in Reichental choosing the shortest and most direct ascent.
Only snow amounts of frozen snow down here, good for walking over on the surface - the snow shoes stay in the rucksack.
Waidmannsfeld, Dürre Wand behind and ...
... Schneeberg.
steep ascent through the forest
On top of the Sueszwaende (a rocky escarpment), there is a beautiful view over the Gutenstein Alps. Click here or into the picture for a larger version.
Schneeberg, with Großer Kitzberg in front.
Gippel (left) and Goeller.
Unterberg with the ski slopes.
Lots of snow up here, I am wearing the snow shoes now.
Schneeberg
On the summit of Mandling. Here was standing the Berndorfer Hütte, which burned down a few years ago.
Summit grassland
On the descent through light forest.
Once more a view to Schneeberg
Gippel and Goeller. Far left the Schwarzauer Gippel, in front of that the ridge of Obersbergs, which I walkes along on Oktober 1st last year.
Back at the car in Reichental. View to Mandling, the summit not visible from here.
