17.3.3023: Riedingtal, Schliereralmsee

We drive to Zederhaus and up the Rieding valley till the Schliereralm, where we walk along the wonderful little reservoir.

We park shortly before the Schliereralm. Get the bikes and the supporter ready, ride around one corner - and face a barrier which only can be circumvented by a stile. So, back to the car and get out the walking sticks.

After a few minutes walk we reach the dam abnd get the view to the Schliereralm - lake. In the background, the prominent peak of the Riedingspitze (2.266 m).

In this area, rests of original limestone covering the central Alpine ridge of the Tauern are preserved, so the summits are much more steep and craggy. To the left side, the slope goes up to the Weißeck ("white peak") which got its name from the white limestone forming its summit rocks.

On the slope above the gravel road hundreds of yellow flowering buckler mustard (Biscutella laevigata), the alpine subspecies (subsp. laevigata), which is described as calciphile - the area fits to the limestone scree beneath the limestone summit of the Weißeck. The plant can enrich Thallium and could be use for phytoremediation.

Back at the buckler mustard (Biscutella laevigata), the dam isn´t so far now.

Nearly back at the carpark, Rieding beck beneath the dam. Only little water, the main amount is led through a tunnel to a water power plant near Gries in the Zederhaus valley.
