Bad Fischau 10.6.2023

Today, I have the honor to guide a new citizen of Bad Fischau to the beauties of the surroundings - especially the orchids in flower just now.

With Gabi Eder and her corean brother-in-law, together with his dog, we start at the outskirts of Brunn and walk up to the iris meadow. Even besides the road and beneath the bushes, we find dozens of Adriatic lizard orchids (Himantoglossum adriaticum), in the grassland above the iris meadow they are especially beautiful as every year.

Large milkwort (Polygala major), a plant of the pannonian flora.

(European) birthwirt (Aristolochia clematitis) ...

... is growing rapidly in this place - hope it would not displace the lizard orchids with time.

On the water pipe dam, the erect clematis (Clematis recta) also proliferates. Only a few lizard orchids can be found here.

A bit further to Weikdersdorf, there are a few places with Adriatic lizard orchids (Himantoglossum adriaticum) in abundance.

On the way back to Winzendorf, I have to stop once more at the poppy field.

Flax i grown an the neighbouring field, which makes a nice colour contrast.

Flax field and poppies. The yellow colour in behind comes from some winter grain nearly ripe now.

More poppies aong the next field ...

... with Purple tansy (Phacelia tanacetifolia) feeded in between, and as a bee feed.

Purple tansy (Phacelia tanacetifolia - "bee friend" in German)

Once more (European) birthwirt (Aristolochia clematitis), besides the gravel road.
